What is MSDS? Understand it and make the goods safer!

AUTHOR: TIME:2023-12-15 11:17:11CLICK:33

The full name of MSDS is Material Safety Data Sheet, also known internationally as Chemical Safety Information Card. It is a document used by chemical manufacturers and importers to clarify the physicochemical properties of chemicals (such as pH value, flash point, flammability, reactivity, etc.) and the potential hazards to the health of users (such as carcinogenesis, teratogenicity, etc.). MSDS is a comprehensive legal document provided by chemical production or sales enterprises to customers in accordance with legal requirements regarding the characteristics of chemicals. To ensure the accuracy and standardization of the report, you can apply to a professional organization for preparation.

     01 MSDS contains content

     The MSDS contains 16 basic information items, none of which are missing. Before providing any information, please check if the following information is complete.

     MSDS content

     1. Material and enterprise identification; 2. Material composition and composition information; 3. Hazard identification; 4. First aid measures; 5. Firefighting measures; 6. Accidental release measures; 7. Operation and storage; 8. Exposure control/personal protection; 9. Physical and chemical properties; 10. Stability/reaction; 11. Toxicological information; 12. Ecological information; 13. Disposal precautions; 14. Transportation information; 15. Regulatory information; 16. Other information. Documents required for MSDS application

     Applicant or company name, address, contact person, phone number, fax number, email address, product name, product model, product nature, end use, export country, name and percentage of chemical components included in the product (CAS No.), physical properties of the product, etc.

     MSDS reporting cycle: 3-5 working days

     Generally, goods that require MSDS verification include batteries, chemicals, etc. In addition to identifying dangerous and non dangerous goods, MSDS can also identify and confirm the special loading of certain special goods.

     02 Review of MSDS

     When reviewing MSDS, the following basic elements are generally required:

      1.The validity period accepted by MSDS is 3 years from the Issue Date;

      2. The 16 basic contents should be filled out item by item, except for other information;

     3. The components in the second or third column of the MSDS must be complete;

     4. If there is a UN No. Class in column 14, it is classified as a hazardous material;

     5. The name of the production unit in MSDS is consistent with the name of the production unit in the cargo transportation condition appraisal certificate. If they are not consistent, it is necessary to explain the relationship between the two.

     03.What are the purposes of the  MSDS report

     In China: Different airlines and shipping companies have different regulations for domestic air and sea export business. Some products can be arranged for air and sea transportation based on the information in the MSDS report, but some airlines and shipping companies must arrange air and sea transportation according to the regulations of "IMDG" and "IATA". At this time, in addition to providing the MSDS report, a transportation appraisal report is also required.

 In foreign countries: When goods are shipped from overseas to China, the MSDS report is the basis document for evaluating the international transportation of this product. MSDS can help us understand whether the imported product is classified as dangerous goods, and can be used directly as a customs clearance document at this time.

     In international logistics and shipping, MSDS reports are like a passport and are essential in many import and export transportation processes.

     Regardless of whether it is domestic or international trade, the seller must provide legal documents explaining the product in various countries around the world. Due to differences in legal documents for chemical management and trade across different states, even in the United States, some may change every month. So it is recommended to apply to a professional organization for preparation. If the provided MSDS is incorrect or incomplete, legal responsibility will be pursued.
